FM30X during Ramadan

Question:

How do I follow FM30X protocols during Ramadan?

Short Answer:

With time restrictions in place in terms of eating/hydrating, we may have to stay a bit more flexible during Ramadan. However, it is still possible to follow our eating/exercising recommendations during this month.

Longer Answer:

With the inability to eat or hydrate from dusk until dawn, we must be able to eat/drink when we can, while also setting realistic expectations with exercise. Since losing weight/fat is the primary goal of the majority of our members, the eating portion during Ramadan is a little easier to follow. We would recommend drinking as much water as you can before the fasting period starts, and avoiding food until Iftar, when it is time to eat again. This is because it benefits us to keep insulin and blood sugar levels lower during morning hours, when our fat-burning hormones are highest of the day. We have the ability to burn more fat with suppressed insulin/blood sugar levels.
Exercising is the trickier part though as we would not recommend exercising early in the morning as you will be unable to replenish your body post-workout. Instead, we recommend exercising right before Iftar, ending the fasting period with a workout + your first meal. This way you can reap the most benefits by burning the most stored fat AND absorbing your first meal most efficiently. However, your energy levels may be much lower due to no food and hydration many hours before. So keep that in mind and listen to your body, while also consider keeping your workouts a bit lighter. The other suggestion would be working out after Iftar/your first meal so you can replenish, hydrate again, and have a great workout. The fat-burning potential may not be as high but you will surely have more energy for an effective workout.
