[FM30X FAQ] Is Creatine safe for me if I have Type 2 Diabetes?

Question: Hey doc! I saw some of your articles about Creatine and I was wondering if I should take it. I have Type 2 Diabetes. What are your thoughts?

Answer: It's generally recommended that Type 2 Diabetics stay away from creatine - largely because diabetes can impair kidney function (and creatine is filtered through the kidneys). I stand by these conservative recommendations. https://www.webmd.com/men/creatine

Now, that's not to say that there isn't benefit to taking Creatine if you have Diabetes. Some good research even shows that Creatine can improve glycemic control in T2 Diabetics:
Do know though that a proper diet and workout also dramatically improves glycemic control in diabetics, so it wouldn't be wise to take Creatine strictly for the benefit of improved glycemic control. Other supplements like Chromium and Cinnamon actually improve blood sugar control without having concerns on kidney function.
Overall, I'd avoid Creatine for now. As your health improves (yes: Type 2 Diabetes is reversible and many members on our  Fit Mother 30X Program have completely gotten off all medications), you can then consider Creatine as a supplement in your regimen.
Hope this helps, my friend!
