Can I have pre-made meals on plan?

Question:

Can I have pre-made meals on plan? Something like frozen meals or from a meal delivery service?

Short Answer:

While it would be extremely convenient to consume pre-made meals, they are usually filled with too much sodium and/or lack the overall nutrition we are looking for on plan.

Longer Answer:

We understand that the majority of you are just flat-out busy. We get it. From working, to kids' sports, to chores around the house, life would be much more simple if meals were pre-made for you. Now this isn't to say they can't be consumed occasionally but probably shouldn't be part of your daily routine. Frozen foods are usually filled with sky-high levels of sodium to help preserve the contents. Having salt/sodium isn't the worst thing in the world if following our plan or eating a clean diet because you really aren't consuming that much! It's only when you are eating restaurant, take-out, frozen, boxed/canned, pre-packaged foods often is where we need to watch our intake.

Meal delivery services are a little more doable. That is because most are becoming more health conscious in the way they prepare and deliver their contents. If you can review the nutritional profiles of the meals beforehand (or ask us on staff to take a look with a provided link) you can make some quality choices in terms of nutrition. Bonus if they let you customize as well because then we can make more Perfect Plates (50% plate veggies, 25% lean protein, 25% complex carb). See below for a list of our favorite Go-To Foods.

But lastly, meal prep doesn't have to be that hard! Take a look at some of our videos to show how easy it is to make fast, healthy, tasty, and nutritious meals. Consider making them in bulk and divvy out your portions so you have meals ready to heat and eat when your schedule is tight.
